About the Program

The goal of the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP) is to prevent the transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) from pregnant women to their newborns.  The program also ensures that their family members are protected against hepatitis B infection.  Accomplished by the following activities:

  • Case management of pregnant infected women and their infants
  • Education of medical providers, birth hospitals, and hepatitis B infected pregnant women and their close contacts
  • Coordination with birth hospitals to promote implementation of national prenatal hepatitis B prevention recommendations
